Island-Selling via Internet in West Manggarai Regency

Punggu Island, one of beautiful islands around Komodo Island, West Manggarai regency, East nusa tenggara is on for sale at around US$ 11 billions .

The offer have been advertised by skyproperty. org since 22 November 2014. In the ads  it is mentioned that Komodo Island can be reached in 20 minutes from Punggu island and 314, 84 kilometers away from Bali. 



“This is a private island with the beautiful view.  The wonderful island is perfect for the high class resort” . It was a piece of informtion written on that adv.

Punggu island area has 117 hectares and it is owned by a personal certificate. The advertisement is available in two languages, such as, English and Indonesia. It is not clarified yet to whom this island ownership belongs to, however selling agent has informed the contact number for the further information. Whatsapp, Blackberry Pin, Skype and email address as well.

The inquiry of Media Indonesia newspaper has found that, the ownership status of the sale island belongs to Haji Latif, the resident of Labuan Bajo.

“I do not know yet if Haji Latif has a certificate of the sale island. By revealing who the holder of the certificate is, those who is behind of this island-selling process will be recognized.  Because, the information has told a link of island having a personal certificate.” Muhammad Nur, local official, was speaking responding to the information of Indonesian island-selling activities.

According to metrotvnes.co, Mr. Latif refused to admit of the ownership.

He explained, he just has the small Punggu Island, while the island which is being saled is the big punggu Island.

West Manggarai regent, Agustinus Dulla admitted that he does not know yet that sale activities. But he said that the regency under his authority has 264 islands. Among those islands, 13 islands have been occupied, 9 Islands just have name which ownership is still under the local government. The rest remain unnamed and having non-inhabitant. 

“If there is no regulation on those islands of central government, we would find difficulties monitoring over those islands” he said, adding that he is going to prove the truth of the issue. 

“I am going to check who the owner of that certificate is”

Punggu island which is not too distant from disputed bidadari Island because of England citizen claiming at the ownership of it. He has bought it from the local inhabitant.

While, Sea security coordinating agency Sudirman said, the regulation no 5/1960 on guidelines of agrarian laws clearly prohibits the foreigner to buy and own over the Indonesian territory.

Aside from that, he said, the small island could not be owned by single person. The investors who want to run businesses in those islands should meet a set of requirement offered by government.


Knowing that Island selling activities often happened, Sudirman proposed to inform through the legal letter to all the regents about the bid of transaction over islands.
